Connecting vitals monitor to Xchart first

You can hook up your vitals monitor to Xchart prior to having your patient connected to the sensors.

Most monitors we have worked with do not support the ability to input previously recorded vitals. We can only record what we get while it is connected.

Therefore, what we recommend doing is establishing the connection between Xchart and your vitals monitor before you start hooking the patient up to all the sensors. During this phase Xchart will say "connected, sending blank vitals."

Once you start hooking the patient up to all the sensors Xchart will select and record each one for you. So even if you start with just SpO2 it will auto select that first and record the value as soon as it gets the first reading from the monitor.

The main point is if you leave the monitor connected to Xchart and select "use this connection" you can leave it in this state without it starting the case. As soon as you hook up the patient to the sensors it will automatically record the values it is getting and start the case.

Please keep in mind we do NOT recommend configuring presets to automatically select the vital types that will come from the monitor, because if you do this then those values will be "missing." For example, if you configure your presets to always select blood pressure, it will preselect blood pressure on the first vitals checkpoint whether or not your monitor has ever given you a blood pressure reading. Therefore, we usually only recommend having your presets auto select things that will not be coming from the monitors, like ECG.
