If you're not seeing the "USB-Serial Controller" entry when trying to use a serial connection on a mac. You probably need the missing driver:

Open the "App Store" and search for "Prolific"

Find, install, and open an app called "PL2303 Serial"

You'll most likely see a dialog that says it is BLOCKED.

That's ok, continue instructions below to make sure it is allowed.

Click "Open System Settings"

If you're on MacOS Sequoia:

  1. Open the "System Settings" app from your applications.

  2. Find "Login Items & Extensions" in the menu on the left.

  3. Scroll to the very bottom and look for "Driver Extensions" in the "Extensions" section and click the small "β“˜" on the right side:

  4. Enable the toggle for PL2303Serial:

If you're on MacOS Ventura (somewhat older):

It will tell you installation was "blocked", click "Allow" and confirm with password or fingerprint.

Now try connecting the monitor again, this time you should see it listed and it should work:
